Obituary

Betty Ray Foster died January 3, 2016, in Guthrie, OK at the age of 83 after fighting a long and courageous battle against multiple cancers for over 10 years. Betty was always full of life and full of love. Her smile was infectious and always visible no matter what battles she may have struggled with.

She was born Betty Ray Squires on January 7, 1932 in Geary, OK to Raymond "Preach" Squires and Mary Squires as an only child. She grew up in Geary participating in Glee Club, band, riding her horse Jerry and playing basketball where she was the MVP her senior year.

She dated the love of her life while attending Oklahoma State University. She married Charles "Chuck" George Foster on August 8, 1952. They moved to Guthrie in 1963. She always considered Guthrie home. They had three children, Charles Ray, Randal Jay and Christina Gay and had four granddaughters. She was a model homemaker, mother and grandmother.

Known in town as "Miss Betty" or simply Grandma, she never met a stranger. She had a love for kids and sports. She was always a Guthrie Bluejay fan and never missed a game of any of her children or her local granddaughters. Betty had a lifetime Guthrie All-Sports ticket. She was named honorary "Assistant Athletic Director in charge of softball operations" by the then athletic director Gary Boxley. She rode the bus with the team to all out of town games. She was also honored for her battle with cancer by the Guthrie football team by participating in the coin toss for the Pink Week game.

She was a huge OSU Cowboy fan and long term ticket holder. She was also honored by the football and basketball teams and Big 12 Coaches for Cancer.

Betty could always be seen about town and the local restaurants speaking or eating with her many friends of all ages. Betty served as the Territorial Governor for the 2014 Territorial Christmas Celebration in Guthrie. She received the most "votes" during the month long fundraising event for the annual celebration. She was an active member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Guthrie and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
