Obituary

Daniel "Dan" Houston Pennington, age 91, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, passed away on April 17, 2026, in Guthrie.

Dan was born on February 3, 1935, in Springdale, Arkansas, to James Pennington and Rachel (McCurley) Pennington. He lived a long life shaped by service, resilience, and a quiet willingness to show up for others when it mattered most.

He proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps, dedicating 28 years of his life to military service. That time reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment, values that stayed with him throughout his life.

In April of 1993, Dan married Jean Fagan. She preceded him in death in June of 2020, and her absence was deeply felt.

Dan found joy in the simple things like traveling to new places, listening to music, and working with his hands through woodworking. He wasn't one to make a big show of things, but those who knew him understood his steady presence and his readiness to help when someone needed it.

He is survived by his daughter, Ina Pennington of Manchaca, Texas; daughter, Frankie Heller and husband Irv of Guthrie; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his partner and companion, Delores Neal; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Summit View Cemetery.

Prior to the service, a lucheon will be provided at the First United Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall (102 E. Noble Ave., Guthrie, OK 73044) at 11:30 AM for all family and friends.
