Doris Ilene
Long
Sep 25, 1939 — Apr 18, 2025
Doris Ilene Long, age 85, of Coyle, Oklahoma, was born on September 25, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas, to Orville O. Reser and Myrtle I. Yiengst. She passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, in Bethany, Oklahoma, just three short months after the passing of her beloved husband, Warren. She was called home on Good Friday, a day made for new beginnings and reunion.
Doris was a woman whose warmth, strength, and unwavering love touched everyone who knew her. Doris began her working life as a CNA, caring for others with compassion and grace in local nursing homes. Later, she found great joy in working alongside Warren, as they ran their tire shop and backhoe business together. They made a wonderful team, both at work and in life.
Doris had a special love for blue, and if you ever wanted to win her heart, a slice of Boston cream cake was a good place to start. She was full of spirit and loved the outdoors, especially spending time with her horses. Trail rides with family and friends were some of her happiest moments, even the time she was kicked in the head by her horse "Little Bear" and had to get stitches right there at the campground. It takes a tough soul to laugh through moments like that, and Doris had that kind of grit and grace.
Her kitchen was always filled with warmth and welcome. Doris always had a duck cookie jar sitting on the counter, full of cookies for anyone who walked through the door. She made the best rice pudding and deviled eggs, and simple, comforting dishes that somehow tasted like love itself.
She treasured time with her family, especially around a good game of Skip-Bo, her absolute favorite. Christmas Eve was always a cherished event in the Long household, as Doris and Warren opened their home year after year. Those gatherings were filled with laughter, joy, and memories that will live on in the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to be there.
Music was another joy of hers, whether she was singing along to a favorite tune or lifting her voice as a faithful member of the Trinity Community Church choir. She rarely missed a service, and her faith was a steady presence in her life.
In her quiet moments, Doris found joy in crocheting, creating blankets with love and care, and even tiny Barbie doll clothes and furniture for her grandchildren, who adored those special handmade gifts. Halloween was another favorite, as she delighted in seeing her great-grandchildren all dressed up and eagerly passed out candy with that familiar sparkle in her eyes.
Doris also had a soft spot for her little dogs, caring for them tenderly and even making the newspaper for teaching one to shake hands and do tricks, a sweet reflection of her patience and playful heart.
But above all else, Doris's greatest joy was her family. Warren and their four boys were the center of her world, and caring for them was her life's true calling. Her love for them was deep, unwavering, and constant.
Doris is survived by her sons David and wife Louise, Carl, and Terry; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Warren; her parents; and her son Ricky.
A graveside service to celebrate Doris's life will be held at Clarkson Cemetery in Coyle on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 10:00 A.M.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 6:00 - 7:00 PM at Hayes Funeral Home.
Doris Long lived a life full of laughter, love, and faith. Her legacy is not only in the beautiful, filled memories she's left behind, but in the lives of the people she loved so deeply. She will be dearly missed and forever cherished
