Obituary

Frances Mary McEwen, 99, passed away on October 7, 2026, in Yukon, Oklahoma. Born on April 6, 1927, in Hermon, New York, to Webbe E. and Mary E. (Gaines) Maine, Frances lived a long life woven with faith, family, friendship, and service to others.

For many years, Frances worked as a registered nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital. Her career placed her beside others during some of their most vulnerable moments, tending to their needs and offering the care and reassurance that meant so much to patients and their families.

Frances found fellowship and connection through her membership at St. Mary Catholic Church in Guthrie, the Catholic Daughters of America, and Business and Professional Women (BPW). These communities were part of a full life that included both service and the enjoyment of time spent with others.

She loved her book club, where the pleasure of reading extended into shared conversations and companionship. Shopping was another favorite pastime, and she enjoyed the opportunity to browse and spend a day out. These everyday joys, alongside her faith and family, helped fill the many chapters of her life.

Frances's family grew to include nine children, 18 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Her life connects generations, each carrying their own memories of her and a place for her in their hearts.

She is survived by her children, John R. McEwen; Jane A. Frank; Barbara J. Hiss; Mary E. Tierney; Peggy L. Saunders and husband Jerry; Catherine E. Trexler and husband Mark; Maureen F. Sapp; Nancy A. Niemeyer and husband Steve; and Ann C. DeBarres; her 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John McEwen, in 2003; her parents; her brother, Robert Maines; and her grandson, Daniel Sapp.

After nearly a century of life, Frances leaves behind memories that will continue to be shared and cherished. She will be lovingly remembered as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, and friend whose life held a special place in the lives of many.
