Joy Louise Walker passed away on May 27th following a brief illness. She was born on March 4, 1927 to Edwin DeWitt and Mary Agnes Walker. Joy met Christopher Columbus Walker when she was in high school in Duke, Oklahoma. When they married, she didn't have to change her name! They moved to Oklahoma City where Christopher began his career in law enforcement. Joy was a wonderful homemaker and mother to her children. She enjoyed working with Dr. Jesse Johnson in his optometry practice for many years. In her later years she became "Nanny Joy" caring for Parker and Kalyn Jenkins who considered her a second grandmother.
Preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters, Joy is survived by her children, Phillip Alan Walker and wife Toby, and Linda Walker Brown and husband Sid. She was so proud of her five grandchildren-Phillip Smith and wife Amber of Pasadena, California, Christopher Smith and Céline of Parent, France, Coleman Walker of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Brooks Walker and wife Bettyann of Oklahoma City, and Erin Brown and husband Dominick of Oklahoma City. She is survived by nine great-grandchildren, numerous beloved nieces and nephews and very special family member, Judy Walker. The family is thankful for the care Joy received at Golden age Nursing Home and for the care and compassionate counsel by the medical staff at Mercy Hospital in Guthrie.
A service to celebrate her life and legacy will be held on Saturday, June 6th at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Edmond. Services are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, Guthrie. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, or a charity of your Choice.
