Karen Celester
Kemp Wymes
Mar 27, 1950 — May 20, 2024
Karen Celester Kemp Wymes, 74, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away on May 20, 2024, in Oklahoma City. Karen was born on March 27, 1950, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to Herbert C. and Doris (Moulder) Kemp.
Karen, a dedicated learner, was a proud alumnus of Langston University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education. Her thirst for knowledge led her to a successful career in information technology at the United States Property and Fiscal Office in New Jersey (USPFO), and later, she retired from the Oklahoma City School Board. Beyond her professional life, Karen found joy in sewing, reading a thick horror novel, Marvel movies, chatting on the phone, laughing at silly comedies, and art. She was a passionate supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles and Oklahoma City Thunder. However, her greatest joy came from nurturing others and spending time with her beloved sons and grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory is her son Bruce Kemp and wife Antoinette of Midwest City, son Christopher Robert Kemp Wymes and wife Brittany of Palmyra, New Jersey, brother Andro Kemp of Fort Worth, Texas, sister Arlene Kemp-Ramist and husband Leonard of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and sister Annette Kemp-Francis and husband Darnell of West Orange, New Jersey. Karen's love extended to her 10 grandchildren: Bridget Tressler, Kylan Kemp, Mya Patillo, Karmah Kemp, Bruce Kemp, Jr., Shawna Myer, Christian Wymes, Raeanna Wymes, Isaiah Wymes, and Landen Wymes. Karen's parents, Herbert Celester and Doris Virginia Kemp, and former spouse Jonathan Wymes preceded her in death.
A private memorial service will be held by her family.
