Lynda JoAnn Cowans, 69, passed away on June 22, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born on June 11, 1957, in Cherokee, Oklahoma, to Edward and Betty (Maddox) Gentry.

On November 19, 1973, Lynda married James Cowans, and together they built a life centered on love, family, and devotion. For more than fifty years, they shared life's joys and challenges side by side, creating countless memories and raising a family they cherished deeply. Though James preceded her in death on November 11, 2025, the love and bond they shared remained a lasting part of Lynda's life.

Lynda enjoyed staying busy and spending time doing the things she loved. She found joy in sewing, crafting, and creating with her hands. She loved playing bingo, visiting the casino, and spending time with family and friends. Whether she was working on a sewing project, trying her luck at a game, or simply enjoying the company of those she loved, Lynda appreciated the simple pleasures in life.

She is survived by her children, Melissa Gentry, Lissa Splawn, and Susan Cowans; her siblings, Curtis Gentry, Sue Garrett, Starla Longest, Sherri Gentry, and numerous other family members and friends. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory.

Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Betty Gentry; her husband, James Cowans; nine brothers and sisters; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
