Obituary

Mark Douglas Heins, 56, of Oklahoma City passed away on May 29, 2025. He was a U.S. Marine, a skilled carpenter, and a man who lived life on his own terms, unapologetically and with grit.

Born in Downey, California, on December 29, 1968, Mark moved to Oklahoma in middle school and spent most of his life in the Oklahoma City metro area. After graduating from Guthrie High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served with distinction. During his military career, Mark was awarded multiple honors, including the Rifle Expert Badge (3rd Award), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Southeast Asia Service Ribbon with two stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. He carried the pride of his service with him for the rest of his life.

After returning home, Mark worked as a carpenter for Hope Lumber. He had a talent for working with his hands, building things that were meant to last. He approached his trade the same way he lived: head-on, no shortcuts.

Mark was a big fan of OU football, loved camping, singing karaoke, and spending time with his kids. He wasn't one for small talk, but if he cared about you, you knew it. He had a sharp sense of humor and a stubborn streak a mile wide.

He is survived by his wife, Shawn Kane Heins; children Dane Heins and wife Aditi, John Kane and wife Jacque, Savannah Heins and partner Max, and Harley Wickersham Heins; grandchildren Caden, Declan, Ainsley, and Halen; siblings Mike Heins and wife Sonya and Wendy Culp.  Mark is also survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mark was preceded in death by his parents Harley Wickersham Heins, II and Donna Nadine (Roberts) Heins, and his sister Linda Marie Heins.

Mark's life wasn't perfect, but it was real. He was tough, loyal, and unfiltered and he will be missed by the people who knew him.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Fort Sill National Cemetery (2648 NE Jake Dunn Rd, Elgin, OK 73538).
