Nettie Elizabeth
Moffitt
Mar 6, 1931 — Jul 16, 2025
Nettie Elizabeth Moffitt, age 94, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, at Willow Creek Nursing Home.
Born on March 6, 1931, in Faxon, Oklahoma, Nettie was the daughter of William Edwin Clark and Lola D. (Ward) Clark. She spent her early years in southwest Oklahoma and New Mexico. Nettie graduated from Belen High School in 1948. She married and started a family. Her husband's job led the family to travel and live in many places across the country, and they eventually settled down in New Mexico. Nettie moved to Guthrie in 1988 to be with her mother and sisters. Nettie called Guthrie home for over 30 years.
Nettie lived a life full of heart, creativity, and quiet resilience. A homemaker by title, but a teacher and an artist by spirit. She loved to act in theater, write short stories, draw, and paint. She loved to sing gospel music, and even wrote and created a record album. For several years, she shared her voice in the Guthrie Gospel Singers group. They traveled to churches and nursing homes, sharing their love of music. Their harmonies were more than music, they were a reflection of a deep bond and shared purpose.
In 2013, Nettie married her friend of many years, Lynvol " Lyn" Moffitt. They remained devoted to one another until Lyn's passing in 2015. She gained more family who adored her. She looked forward to visits, letters, and calls from her family. She shared photos of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with so many.
She had a special love for children and enjoyed seeing the students in the intergenerational pre-k at Willow Creek, where she was affectionately known as an "adopted grandma." Nettie never stopped loving. She found joy and purpose in the small things: a favorite hymn, drawing, or painting. Her quiet strength and capacity for grace will be remembered by those who truly knew her.
She is survived by her children Ben Honeycutt and wife Laura, Mike Honeycutt and wife Barbara, Steve Honeycutt and wife Sharon, her bonus daughter Donna Hurst and husband Bill, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyn, her siblings Eileen, Bonnie, Ruth, Allen, Wanda, and Chris, and her grandson Jacob.
Nettie's life was one of music, art, and unwavering kindness. Her memory lives on in the melodies she sang, the beauty she created, and the lives she quietly shaped through her love.
